What a website builder is
A website builder is a service where you assemble a site from ready-made blocks right in the browser. No developer needed. The best known are Tilda and Wix.
You pay a subscription for a builder. The site sits on the service’s servers: it works as long as you pay.

When a site builder is enough
- You are testing an idea
- You want to see whether there is demand. A page built in an evening on a builder is cheaper than any order.
- A page for a couple of months
- A promotion, an event, enrolment for a group. After a season you will not need it.
- No budget yet
- But you have time. A simple site is doable on your own if you do not need booking or payment.

When a custom website works out better
- You need the site for years
- Over three years a Tilda subscription costs $360 and Wix about $610. A custom landing page costs from €150 once, then only hosting.
- You want clients from search
- Fast loading on a phone and a separate page for every service help you climb in Google.
- The site is part of how you work
- Booking with specialists, a timetable, orders, a CRM. On a builder that takes paid add-ons or cannot be done at all.
- You need several languages
- Romanian, Russian and English, each with its own page addresses.

Can you move a site from Tilda or Wix?
It cannot be moved as it is: the site is rebuilt on custom code. The design, copy and photos can be kept.
Is it true that builder sites rank worse in Google?
Not always. A simple Tilda site can rank high. Trouble starts when there are many pages, when speed on a phone matters or when you need something the builder does not have.
Which is cheaper in the end?
At the start, a builder: $10–17 a month against €150 up front. After three years a Tilda subscription comes to $360 and Wix to about $610, and you keep paying.
What if I cannot build websites?
Then a freelancer builds it on the builder for you, and that costs money too. You end up paying for both the work and the subscription.
